The State Emergency Operations Center will stay running through Wednesday January 8, 2025, as Indiana responds to the severe winter storm that impacted the southern half of the state. The Indiana Department of Homeland Security activated the center on Sunday January 5, 2025, and started coordination efforts ahead of the storm late last week. Downstate Vanderburgh and Posey counties both declared states of emergency Monday January 6, 2025, due to thousands of people losing power. Indiana National Guard Lieutenant Colonel Amy Hoover says the Evansville and New Albany areas were particularly hard hit with outages.
