The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Railroad Administration announced it has awarded more than $570 million in Railroad Crossing Elimination Grant Program funding to proposed projects in 32 states including Indiana, three in the Region. In Hammond, two at-grade crossings would be removed at Parrish and Arizona Avenues and an overpass called Governors Parkway would be built. In Gary, Buffington Harbor Gateway would close eight rail crossings on Clark Road. And in Schererville, the Kennedy Avenue Railroad Overpass Project would fund final design and construction of a grade separation at a crossing with over 30 trains a day.
