Winter storm warnings were continuing for Porter, La Porte, and Starke counties for heavy lake effect snow. The Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by the National Weather Service Chicago this morning said heavy lake effect snow with periods of near-blizzard conditions were expected over northeast Porter County this morning and again tonight. Scattered snow showers were also in the forecast across Northwest Indiana along with patchy blowing snow. Dangerous travel conditions were reported.
“Due to the nature of lake effect snow, conditions can vary significantly over very short distances, going from flurries to white out conditions over the span of just a few miles. This can also result in highly variable snowfall totals over short distances,” the National Weather Service Chicago said in the Winter Storm Warning.
